I think I am becoming a sewer!

This is going to be a quick post and I will post more on this later but I am soooo stinking proud of myself you have no idea! I think I can sew! Not well by any means and not elaborate things but actual things that I think will work!

First project was to sew some cloth wipes. I got different flannel and cut them out into 8" x 8" squares. I laid 2 pieces right side together and stitched. Once I was all the way around I turned them right side up and sewed the little hole up. I made 50 of them and here is an example!

I love my monkey wipes! :)

My next project was fleece soakers.  These will work great for covers with his prefolds and fitted cloth diapers!  The first one I made was a total flop because I wasn't paying attention to the pattern and the direction of the fabric.  I found a great free pattern online at http://katrinassqs.blogspot.com/2007/10/free-soaker-pattern.html  It was sooo super easy to follow and gives you all different sizes.  The 2nd one I made turned out a little better.  It is my newborn sized STL Cardinals Fleece soaker!

Next I thought I could tackle some fleece longies.  I used the free pattern from the same website as the soaker http://katrinassqs.blogspot.com/2008/09/longies-pattern.html.  Here is a picture of my size small robot fleece longies.

Last but not least I made a cocoon!  Oh I love the cocoon and think it turned out really well!  I found a post about it on www.diaperswappers.com in their craft forum.  The link is http://www.evolutiondiapers.com/#!free and was even easier then the soakers and longies.  Here is a picture of the cocoon in the middle, the newborn sized longies on the right, small soaker top left and newborn soaker bottom left!  I am so proud of myself!  haha

The Nursery - Painted and Furniture!

Finally I talked Scott into purchasing the furniture. We got great deals on all of it and I was soooo excited to get it.  Last weekend Grandma and Grandpa Lundgren made a surprise trip up to bring all of the goods.  The walls were painted and ready and so it began!  I don't have the pictures saved yet from putting it all together but I do have some after pictures of it all together and bedding on!

The whole room!

The Crib!

Dresser!

Changing Table!

And now for a picture of my favorite part...

The organizer bins filled with cloth diapers! :)  I love these bins.  I had originally planned on using some sort of wicker basket for the organizers but was having trouble finding ones I liked that were good sized.  I had seen on another cloth diapering mom's blog where she had all of her diapers in these cute little totes.  Thank goodness I am doing this all in summer.  I purchased 6 beverage tubs from K-Mart for $4.50 each.  Everything fits in them really well, no wicker falls off and they will be super easy to clean!  Oh and I loved the colors!  How fun to go with the bedding!

Cloth Diaper Update Part 2!

So the very next day after my first update where I said I was pretty much done I changed my mind.  I had purchased 12 FuzziBunz OS pocket diapers off a woman on Craigslist.  At first I was very excited to find some used dipes in good condition from a local person that were in boy or gender neutral colors.  These diapers are different from the few BumGenius diapers I have purchased.  The first difference is how you change the sizes.  With the BG dipes you have snaps in front and they change to three different sizes.  The FB dipes use elastic in the legs.  The more and more I read about them the less appealing they sound.  The other difference is how they close.  The BGs I have are aplix (velcro) and the FB are all snaps.  Each side has 3 snaps that have to be snapped every time you put the diaper on.  A lot moms love the snaps but I am sort of lazy so I think the aplix is going to be the way to go for us.
I was bound and determined to try the FB and try and make them work for us until someone posted on the CD board on the bump about a website that was not only honoring the BG buy 5 get 1 free sale but also was honoring their Memorial Day 15% off with free shipping!  The last selling point for me was they were carrying the new artist series prints too!  So let me break this down.  Each regular print diaper is $17.95.  Each artist print is $19.95.   I purchased 12 diapers, 6 regular prints and 6 artist prints.  Normally that would be $227.40 for those 12 diapers.  I paid $142.59 or roughly $11.88 a diaper!!!!  That is almost a 38% discount on brand new diapers! :)

Here are the artist prints I got!  The I got 2 of each the blue and red with aplix and got 1 snap and 1 aplix of the black and white because I couldn't resist what the snapped black and white looked like!

Now I need to sell my FB diapers because I have way too many.  I think I am going to keep the darker yellow and a red one.  I googled and you can use fabric paint to make your own designs on them.  Since Scott is pretty handy when it comes to drawing and painting I thought how cute would it be for him to draw the Herky head for Iowa Hawkeyes on the yellow and a navy blue STL logo on the bum of a red one!  Even if they don't work as good dipes they will make for some super cute pictures! :)

Progress!

The babe's room is painted!  I of course don't have pictures yet but I will as we start to put it all together.  We ordered furniture!  We were able to get all of the furniture I posted previously with the help of Grandma L for a really good price.  Everything but the dresser is ready for pick up and the dresser will be on Monday!  I can't wait to get them and get them put together!  That should be a fun day for Scott and I!  It will just be so nice when that is another item we can check off the list.

Oliver is going to be one well dressed kid for at least the first 3 months of his life!  My mom called this week and said someone my dad works with left him a huge diaper box full of fall baby boy clothes!  She said they are absolutely adorable!!  We also had some store credit at Younkers so we went and spent that on some clothes.  We got him 5 more onesies, some with some really cute dogs on them and then a little two piece outfit with a dinosaur on it!  Last but not least, we added some more stuff to his wardrobe!  On the Bump we did a onesie exchange.  We also joined and then Elfster randomly picked a person for us to send a care package to and someone to send one to us!  Well I got ours in the mail on Friday and this is what we got!

How stinking cute is that Cardinals onesie!  I am pretty sure she made it which makes it even better!  She also gave us 5 little onesies and 3 little sleep and plays!  Soooo cute! :)  We have another one scheduled for the coming month!  Can't wait to see what we get then!

23 Weeks!

Week 23 Oliver is again the size of a Papaya.  I am not quite sure how that works since he is growing still but we will go with it! :)
